Solfege A  Week 39 ( 23 sept. )

Homework:

  • Standard of the week  (There'll never be another you).

Sing melodybassline and guidetoneline and try to write it down. Transpose  to different tonalities. Sheetmusic is here

The chordsymbols in the sheetmusic are the changes from the playalong. Check the line exercises .

A harmonisation of There'll never be another you played by Dough Mckenzie from his great website Bushgrafts

A great video about mastering the chordtones on this standard!

  • Read  about chromatic approachnotes from David Berkman's book 'The Creative Musician' and go and buy this masterpiece!.
  • Talking about chromaticism, sing all the Bebop scales up and down while clapping on 1 and 3, 2 and 4 and rotating this every 4 bars, 2 bars,1 bar.  Also sing these scales while clapping the 2-3 and 3-2 clave. Check out Jerry Bergonzi part 1 and part 2 on Bebopscales.
  • Don't forget to do the chordscale drill every week. Listen, sing, write down. A chordscale a day keeps the doctor away.
  • The tension exercises are exam stuff. Listen to the piano, sing root and sing the note in the vibraphone. Decide the function of this note in the chord.
  • An interesting file about Transcribing solo's. This is from the great website 'Jazzadvice'.
  • Try to play this right hand montuno on the piano and transpose to other keys. Who wants to get all the way, try this.
